Badghis Province, Western Afghanistan — On my fourth or fifth (don’t remember now) field mission to Badghis Province to oversee the initial stages of closing the sub-office there, I and a colleague (and fellow Filipino) made several stops along the way to shoot the landscape. Traveling to Badghis during summer was difficult as the road was really dusty. During winter, some portions of the road leading to the province is impassable due to thick/deep snow especially along the Sabsak pass. The best time to travel to Badghis is actually at the start of spring. The roads will be muddy (because of the melting snow) but the scene and the landscape around presents a totally different character. What used to be barren or deserted hills and mountains will look different with some portions still covered with snow.
