Dawah Evacuation Center, Sultan Kudarat Municipality, Maguindanao, Philippines — During an emergency relief operation done in the Dawah Evacuation Center in Maguindanao, I saw this scene of a grandmother and a child in one corner of the evacuation center. The obvious contrast (i.e. contrast in age) was the first thing that drew me to the scene. Upon closer scrutiny however, and after seeing the shot a coupe of time, I would say this photo might as well describe the general situation of IDPs in evacuation camps in Maguindanao. Among the thousands of IDPs displaced by flooding and the conflict between some elements of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the Philippine Military, majority of the residents in evacuation centers are the elderly and children (not to mention, majority are also women).
