Carmen, North Cotabato Province, Philippines — The Municipality of Carmen in the Province of North Cotabato is one of the areas I frequently pass through whenever I go home to Cagayan de Oro City or report back to my duty station in Cotabato City. Aside from rice, the other major crop being grown in this municipality is corn (Maize). During harvest time, farmers dry their corn harvest along the national highway. This is due probably to the lack of or limited access to post-harvest facilities. Either way, drying of corn along the highway (even if traffic in this area is not heavy) still poses an amount of danger to motorist utilizing this highway as the two-lane highway becomes a one-lane highway. Aside from the danger of traffic accidents, this also brings inconvenience to motorist.

We jokingly call this portion of Carmen, North Cotabato as the longest solar drier in Mindanao.
